Inspired by the iconic art style of “Abe’s Oddysee,” I set out to create a 3D model of Abe that would capture his endearing charm while being versatile enough for use on various platforms.
The challenge was to maintain Abe’s distinctive look with a minimal polygon count. I meticulously crafted each detail, resulting in a model that’s both visually appealing and optimized for performance, clocking in at around 5500 polygons.
To add expressiveness, I sculpted multiple morph targets for Abe’s head, allowing for a wider range of emotions. Elements like his ponytail and backpouch have been rigged separately, ready for dynamic bone simulations to add an extra layer of life to his animations.
The final model comprises six distinct parts, offering flexibility for customization. I used motion capture data as a foundation for his animations, then layered in manual keyframing and corrections to ensure a polished and believable performance.
